History
This school was built on farmland, approximately 2 miles from the US/Mexico border, in 1967, but it was not Mission Valley Elementary. The school first opened as Valley View Middle School. In 1987 an elementary school was needed in the area, so a new building was constructed to house Valley View Middle. Instead of building another new school, a new wing was added to the old Valley View building and the rest of the facility was remolded. The school needed a name, therefore a contest was held for area students to name the new elementary. Sophia Carrasco won and in 1989 Mission Valley Elementary’s doors opened for students. A cougar was selected as the school mascot and the colors were blue and silver. Al Trujillo was the first principal, followed by Mauricio Batres, Rebecca O'Neil, and Ruben Cadena. July 2015 Veronica Alvidrez, who was the Assistant Principal, became our new Principal. There is 1 teacher, Mrs. (Coach) Rodriguez, who has taught here since the school opened and continues to educate our cougars.
